Hoodoos are rock formations that resemble the human form. Indian legend has it that "naughty" native Americans were sent to the desert for punishment. The spirit of the coyote, turned them into these stone sculptures, never to be seen again.
In an attempt to see them up close, we chose the horse/mule ride to do this. We arrived at the corral, and were subsequently eyeballed to be paired with a horse. Somehow, Eddie and I were mistook as a couple, and Marie and Lenny were apart from us. My horse, took off within the corral, and the lead guide immediately came over and asked "Lady - what are you doing?" I innocently answered - Parking! Eddie and I couldn't keep a straight face. Len and Marie on the other hand, obediently doing what they were told, didn't know what all the fuss was about from the other side of the corral.
Our guide, Chuck, took us on an 8 mile trail, down into the canyon. The going was steep, with hairpin turns, and white knuckled grips. We felt quite accomplished yet exhausted.
As tired as we were, we still wanted to hike under the rim. So we ventured out after lunch to do a nominal 1.3 mile hike called the Navajo Loop. Piece of cake - said the Len man. A "short" 3 hours later, we came drag-assing up the final incline!
We had dinner out (at 6, after cancelling the 8:15 reservation!) and were in bed by 8:30 - and there is where we stayed til 7am!

I'm loving the pictures! It's all so beautiful. Tell us more about the RV ... is it comfy? Do you cook in it? Where do you get food?
(I sound like a Jerome, don't I? I guess after 28 years, we start to think alike!) xoxoMary Jo
Oh, one more thing... we got your text, Marie and Ed. My phone is wacky sometimes... RJ is on his way to Dubai, so he'll catch up on this blog when he gets home. Safe travels! xoxoMJ
What an amazing adventure. You guys are doing everything. Loving the pictures. Love Ginger
The horse ride looks like fun. I better not show Ava & Tyler. They may want you to bring them back. You can guess what their names would be. Take care and have fun.

Great Blog guys! So happy you went to Kodachrome. What courage it took to rock climb. The trip is awesome, but what I really want to know is where was the picture of Lucille and Lenny's piggy back ride???
