An interesting curiosity, was the wine fountain. Here, wine is flowing freely from a fountain, for the pilgrims. It was worth a photo stop, but not a drinking stop!
The Camino is a hard packed dirt and gravel (at times rocky and rutted) trail. Our initial exposure to it was that of a downhill. Needless to say, great care was taken not to skid out or get stuck in ruts. Slow and steady was the norm, until you got acclimated. Pilgrims along the way greeted us, as did we greet them and wish them a “Buen Camino” I loved when someone would respond Gracias to this!
Once again, the surrounding
hillsides, mountains, and fields were indescribably magnificent. I really never knew anything about Spain, so
all this beauty is a wonderful surprise!
Sensory overload was a big
part of the day – flowers, mountains, and sound – today that of the gravel
crunching beneath the tires. Some of the
hills were a challenge, but once at the top the vistas were spectacular!
We had a brief stop in Los
Arcos in the Plaza de Santa Maria. It
was great to sit in the piazza, in the sun and have a coffee/tea!
We continued on the Camino
until we came to a paved road into Sansol.
We knew we were done at this point, since the last 6 miles were straight
uphill.
A number of us opted for bus
transport to Viana and it was here we had our lunch stop at a winery. Fantastic!!
Food was prepared by the couple who owned the winery, and of course, the
wine was great!!
We had a tour of the winery
after lunch, and then it was a 90-minute bus ride to Burgos for the evening. We're staying at Meson del Cid. All of our rooms are overlooking the square and cathedral - beautiful!
Tomorrow is a walking tour of
the city, then we’ll be bussed to Leon.
No riding til Friday and that’s okay with me!
