We had a leisurely morning before heading out to the Upper Geyser Basin.  This is located between Madison and Old Faithful along the Firehole River.  This area has the largest display of geysers.  We took a moderate hike/walk to Morning Glory Pool.  This thermal pool got its name because of its resemblance to the morning glory flower.  Unfortunately, it is no longer as deep blur as it once was because debris thrown by visitors has clogged its vent.    We were surprised by its depth and color.  There were many other geysers in this area as well, scheduled to erupt during the day.  However, none as regular as “Old Faithful”, hence, the name!

The weather got dismal, and it began to rain.  We headed back to the inn, in search of something warm.  Marie spied the menu of the “Bear Pit” …chicken wings…need I say more?  It was quite cozy and delicious!  Then we headed to the Lake House, about an hour drive, in an attempt to have dinner there.  We couldn’t get a reservation, but were told it we got there by 5, we could get on the wait list, and perhaps be seated within 30 minutes!  It was worth a try, though we can’t figure out how that works for them.  Originally, we were told they had nothing available til 9 PM, of which we said, forget it!

Anyhow, we got there at 4:50, and the dining room receptionist basically told us to get lost for 10 minutes!!  When we realized more people were showing up for the wait list, Marie and I skulked behind the pillar with apple phone and time in hand!  At precisely 5 I approached and said “Apple 5 o’clock!  They took our name, and gave us a buzzer.  We had drinks at the bar, looking out at Yellowstone Lake – pretty.   We were seated by 6 – not too bad!  We ordered, and it seemed like dinner was long in coming and then lo and behold, after serving Marie and Ed, our waiter knocked over mine and Lenny’s!!  Had to wait again!  Bottom line – dinner was adequate.  The boys braved having bison medallions (like a fillet mignon).

We got back to the site, clouds, no stars- Boo Hiss!
