Thursday 9/8
After yesterday's ride, today was to be a "down" day with a hike of the area. However, the weather did not cooperate, so Rosita arranged for us to visit the palentological museum. After a short amount of time, I was museum weary, so Ann, Sheldon and I decided to walk the cities' pedestrian area. Lenny remained back at the hotel to reboot.
The town boasts many up scale stores and a number of boutiques and souvenir shops. We visited the church in the center of the square, but apart from that, it wasn't out of the ordinary.
Cortina d'Ampezzo is considered part of the Dolomiti Superski area. The 1956 Olympics were held here and sites include the Ice Stadium, the bobsleigh run and the disused ski jump Trampolino Olimpico Italia. The Tofane area is the site of a Women's Ski World Cup race. The Olympics will be here again in 2026 and they are already gearing up for it, with some events taking place in Milan.
Lenny came into town to meet us, we had lunch at Il Posticino, in the Hotel de la Poste. We vanned back to the hotel to chill and relax by the hot tub on the terrace and unwind before our next big ride.
Dinner tonight is at the hotel.
