Saturday June 26th 2010

Today was a travel day. We woke up to no electricity - - and so began our trials. That meant no showers for some, and showers akin to a sailboat shower for others. The plan was to drive Anna and Richard to Florence’s train station. They were going to Rome for a Sunday departure. While there, we’d meet Fr Douglas (who was to train from Empoli) to join us for our final destination of Venice. Funnily enough, timing worked out great, and we were on the road by 11.
Traffic was horrendous, but we made it to Venezia by 5 pm. It is still as beautiful as I remember!! We settled into our hotel (Commercial e Pellegrino) near the doge palace.

We walked to St Mark’s square, and had a drink at the place that has the outdoor orchestra. Perfect for this occasion, a bellini! We were met here by Lino (Cinzino’s brother) and his girlfriend, Rosella. We had dinner together at La Sacristan (the sacristy – how appropro!), Even their dog, Ghilberto, joined us!! Dinner was seafood and way too much, but it was a pleasant change from boar, pigeon and oxen!! We had a fun evening!

Si io chiuso i occhi io posso sentire i violini giocando in Piazza San Marco.
