We started today at 7:30 am with a walk with Cinzino. We went up the hill (huffing and puffing) and out of the town. No huffing for Cinzino!! We spent time in the cemetery, looking at the family burial sites and crypts. Many, many Lufranos, Tufaros, and Olivettis. We could not complete our walk, because Pino was expecting us at 9 for breakfast.
On our return, Pino walked with me and sang O Solo Mio, bringing tears once again. I suspect that he knew he hit a soft spot. It was lovely.

After a prima colazione (breakfast) we went into town, because it was market day. There were many vendors, of which the ones selling cheese were of the most interest!!
We ate lunch in Pino’s garden and it was delightful.

Then we parted ways for siestas, reading and overall down time.
It was a welcome relaxing day after the frenetic pace of Rome.
We attended afternoon mass, of which Fr Douglas celebrated. Of course, the “church ladies” were staring at “Gli Americana”. Some woman introduced herself and it turns out she’s a relation. That’s been happening a few times. Chris and Richard were interested in seeing the house of Giovanni Lufrano (Grandpa John). Apparently it has been totally redone and I get the feeling that if they could, they’d like to gain entry!
Dinner tonight is a “surprise” or so Pino said. I really need to share the incredible dishes we’ve been having. It started with a baccala mouse and crisped pepper. It actually looked like a fluffy dessert. This was followed by a circular shaped typed quiche(???) with shaved prosciutto on top. Pasta came next, in the shape of olive leaves, topped with whisked ricotta, and sprinkled with something (wild boar?) with a flowered tomato atop. Again, it looked like dessert.

The entrĂ©e was roasted pork, dollops of green potatoes (I think they were green apple) and apple au jus. Finger licking good!!! Dessert was ice cream topped with a berry glaze made of course by Pino. Music played throughout dinner and Cinzino broke into song every now and then. It was wonderful. Afterward, some went for a walk while others retired. Big day tomorrow – up early with the chickens!!
