Today we took an alternate route from our scheduled itinerary, in order to drive the legendary Route 66 . To our surprise, there wasn’t much to look at during the 85 mile stretch of highway – not even a sighting of George Maharis and Martin Milner in their vintage corvette. (Do you know who they are?) Finally, our stomach clocks went off…again! We lunched on burgers, fries and shakes (Marie had a health salad after all those wings!) at Mr D’z Diner. This put us back in time, surrounded by hot pink, turquoise, and 50’s décor.
Waddling out of Mr D’z, we went in search of a supermarket, because we had to buy dinner!!! (Marie said ribs were the order of the day!)
We settled into our first KOA campground. There are some here, who look like they are here for awhile – a real trailerpark. Marie is so excited! Right now, there is some yahoo driving a little pulltrain filled with kids around the campground. There is an ice-cream social tonight and can you guess who will be first in line? Tomorrow there is a S’Mores and More Party. Marie has found her Shangri-La!
